Student’s viral tweet is the perfect response to stepdad who said he’d fail


YPSILANTI, Mich. – In a second of reflection on the eve of graduating from Japanese Michigan College, scholar Daivon Reeder struck a chord on social media with a tweet that has since gone viral.

Alongside a photograph in his cap and robe, Reeder wrote Thursday: “My step dad informed me it was pointless to go to orientation, I wasn’t going to graduate…..four years later he in jail & I’m properly….,” adopted by a line of laughing emojis.

Hours later, the tweet started trending in Detroit, catching the eye of Twitter in addition to the media. Native Detroit station WDIV four featured a phase on Reeder, who graduated Saturday with a level in legal justice and a minor in army science.

He advised the station that after dropping his educational scholarship, these phrases pushed him even more durable to succeed.

“[I have] the typical, typical, inside-metropolis Detroit boy story,” Reeder, 22, says. “I grew up always shifting homes.” The eldest of 4, Reeder stated his mom struggled to make ends meet for his household, and his stepfather was not all the time within the image. After his stepdad made the remark about graduating, “I type of heard that and I used to be like OK, I’ll present you,” Reeder tells WJBK. “I’m only a first era school child from Detroit making an attempt to beat the chances,” he tells BuzzFeed Information. “I assume individuals can relate to a humble starting.”

The tweet has greater than 600,000 likes and 148,000 retweets up to now.
