Report: Crash on I-10 west involves cargo of live honey bees

A series of accidents have closed I-10 westbound at the Old Pearl River Bridge. 

The accidents happened on I-10 West at Mile Marker 270. Two people were sent to area hospitals with injuries, according to the St. Tammany Fire Protection District #1. 

State Police said those that were taken to the hospital did not have serious injuries. 

Congestion is approaching the Louisiana/Mississippi State Line.

State Police Trooper Dustin Dwight told | The Times-Picayune that a total of eight vehicles were involved in the accident on the bridge. 

According to State Police, two 18-wheelers involved in the accident were hauling cargo of live honey bees. 

Dwight said in the report that the goal is to get the roadway opened as soon as possible, but he didn’t have an estimate on when that would happen.

Motorists are advised to use US 90 as an alternate route.
