Man suspected in U of I scholar’s disappearance indicted by federal grand jury

The person suspected of kidnapping a College of Illinois visiting Chinese language scholar was indicted at this time by a federal grand jury.

28-yr-previous Brendt Christensen is charged with kidnapping Yingying Zhang in Urbana, Illinois on June ninth.

Based on the Dept of Justice, the indictment alleges that Christensen kidnapped and held Zhang and that he used a cellular phone and a Saturn, “each devices of interstate commerce, to commit and in furtherance of the fee of the offense.”

Zhang was final seen moving into Christensen’s automotive at a bus cease on that day, in response to a beforehand filed legal grievance. Christensen had been beneath surveillance a few week after the kidnapping.

Zhang continues to be lacking and presumed lifeless, officers stated.

If convicted, the penalty for kidnapping is as much as life in jail.

The investigation is on going.
