PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say a person awaiting his life sentence in jail for killing his girlfriend and fleeing the state was discovered hanging in his Detroit-space jail cell.
Oakland County sheriff’s officers stated 35-yr-previous Kevin Wiley was pronounced lifeless early Monday at a hospital after deputies found him. He was to be sentenced hours later for the April 2016 homicide of Marie Colburn, discovered suffocated inside a closet by her mom in Pontiac.
Officers say deputies checked Wiley’s cell 22 minutes earlier. They add he wasn’t on suicide watch and confirmed no indicators of harming himself, although he left a suicide notice.
He was arrested in Radcliff, Kentucky, a couple of weeks after the slaying and extradited to Michigan. He was on parole for a manslaughter conviction and eliminated his digital tether.
