Gurnee lays sandbags to hold back floodwaters

Volunteers and emergency staff in Gurnee put down sandbags alongside the Des Plaines River Wednesday to maintain floodwaters at bay.

Village officers say the transfer is a part of its emergency response to the heavy rain that’s been falling over the world.

Gurnee spokesman Jack Linehan stated if the river crests above 10 ft, water might spill on to Grand Avenue and get into houses.
