Former Detroit Health Director Announces Run For Governor

DETROIT (AP) — Former Detroit well being director Dr. Abdul El-Sayed says he’s getting into the Michigan governor’s race.

El-Sayed is operating as a Democrat and made his marketing campaign announcement Saturday throughout a rally in Detroit.

The 32-yr-previous El-Sayed is a 2007 College of Michigan graduate. He was a Rhodes Scholar and earned his doctorate from Oxford College and medical diploma from Columbia College.

He was appointed government director of Detroit’s well being division in 2015, however resigned this month to run for governor.

Second-time period Republican Gov. Rick Snyder can’t run once more in 2018 because of time period limits.

Democrat and former state Senate minority chief Gretchen Whitmer already has introduced her candidacy for governor.
