Ex-detective says corrupt partner was shot by drug dealers

BALTIMORE (AP) — An indicted ex-detective says his former police partner was shot in 2006 due to a feud with rival drug dealers.

Ex-officers Jemell Rayam and Momodu Gondo are disgraced members of a Baltimore police unit riddled with corruption. In a trial last year, Gondo and Rayam admitted they protected drug-running friends and robbed rivals.

WMAR-TV reports that during the trial of two other detectives Wednesday, Rayam testified that Gondo told him he was actually shot by rival drug dealers.

Gondo was wounded by gunfire outside his home in December 2006, two months after graduating from Baltimore’s police academy.

At the time, police said the “very-well-respected” rookie was attacked after getting off duty.

Rayam has also testified that Gondo helped a friend buy a gun later used in a homicide.
