BOSTON (AP) — New Jersey Devils defenseman Ben Lovejoy says he’ll donate his mind to analysis after he dies so it may be studied for indicators of traumatic damage.
The Concussion Legacy Basis says Lovejoy is the primary lively NHL participant to make such a pledge.
Greater than 2,500 retired athletes and army veterans have pledged their brains to the inspiration. Docs look at the brains for indicators of continual traumatic encephalopathy, a degenerative situation that may trigger melancholy, violent temper swings, forgetfulness and different cognitive issues.
Lovejoy says he’s performed hockey for many of his life, together with 10 seasons within the NHL. He says he needs to provide again to the game by making it safer.
