We simply skilled some report flooding on the Des Plaines River. Didn’t the earlier document flood happen in 1986?
— Don Booty, Naperville
The present flooding episode has established historic crests at three places alongside the Des Plaines River — Russell Street, Gurnee and Lincolnshire — with the river rising to inside a foot of its report flood stage at Des Plaines. Solely the brand new 12.09-foot crest at Gurnee erases the Sept. 27, 1986, eleven.ninety five-foot crest. The newly dethroned crest at Russell Street was established in 2004 and Lincolnshire’s in 2013.
Again in late September 1986, extreme flooding at Gurnee made village streets impassible with as much as 6 ft of water, inundated greater than 2,500 houses and compelled police to patrol the flooded areas in boats after greater than two weeks of heavy rainfall.
