Just as the Phillies were about to get healthier, they lost another player to injury.
Cesar Hernandez, who has been on the 10-day disabled list with a left oblique strain last playing for the Phillies on June 9, has been activated from the DL and is starting and hitting leadoff Monday night in Miami.
Although as the Phillies announced Hernandez returning, they placed Aaron Altherr on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to July 15, with a strained right hamstring. Altherr, who leads the team hitting .288, has not played the past two games for Philadelphia.
Hernandez returns to the lineup after four rehab games with Single-A Clearwater in which he hit .143 but walked nine times for a .647 on-base percentage. His only hit came Sunday when he went 1-for-1 with six walks, trying a Florida State League record with most free passes in a game.
Before Hernandez went on the disabled list he was cemented in the Phillies’ leadoff spot hitting .277 with 20 walks in 58 games.
