25 license plates stolen off cars in California neighborhood

SAN LEANDRO, Calif. (AP) – Police in San Leandro say at the least 25 license plates have been stolen from automobiles parked in a residential neighborhood in lower than every week.

San Leandro Police Division spokesman Lt. Robert McManus says the plates have been stolen off automobiles parked in a number of streets.

McManus says it’s unclear why anybody would steal so many license plates.

He says some prospects embrace utilizing them to promote them as novelty gadgets or attaching them to automobiles utilized in crimes.

McManus says stolen plates are reported to a nationwide database that tracks them and that police automobiles have scanning know-how that may alert workplaces when a stolen plate is detected.
